An evening of poetry and music devoted to one of the most influential European poets of the second half of the 20 century – Zbigniew Herbert.

Herbert's poetry, “marked by a direct language and a strong moral concern, is shaped by his experiences under both the Nazi and Soviet dictatorships”. Although these experiences are destructive, in his works, Herbert “draws constructive conclusions”, and “builds a bridge between realms that seems to be irreconcilable: the past and the present, suffering and poetry.” His purpose as a poet and the subjects of his poetry are serious, however, he uses humour and satire to “keep his private language and avoid the total politicization of the self”.

In the musical part of the program, the compositions by L.V. Beethoven, F. Schubert, F. Chopin, K. Szymanowski and A. Scriabin have been selected to complement the profoundness and irresistible beauty of the Herbert's work.

The performers under the artistic direction of Eva Karpinski and the pianist Ruby Jin invite you to a meeting with the poet Zbigniew Herbert in the evening of poetry and music entitled “Meeting Mr. Cogito”.
