Summer of 840

Presented by Stars of Lebanon Theatre Company

Summer of 840 (Saif 840) is a historical epic-musical play by the legend Mansour Rahbani. It is the story of the peasants' revolution and leaders from all Lebanese communities who swore on June 7 of 1840, to unite against repression, starvation, injustice and unfair taxes. The peasants and their leaders were supported by the Ottomans, the British, the Russians and the Prussians, while Emir Bachir II was backed up by the French and Pasha Ibrahim, who mobilized a large campaign against Syria and Lebanon to arrest the Ammiyah leaders.

Between interests of foreigners in this land and desire of a people eager for freedom, Mansour Rahbani, an expert in history, wrote a love story between Sayf Elbahr, the peasant rebel, and Mira, the daughter of Captain Assaf El Daher, a tyrant officer in the army of Emir Bachir II. A deep love and sense of national duty drew Mira to Sayf Elbahr and the rebels in this classical drama.

This show is presented in Lebanese and French.
